Greenskeeper Request

We remind members that the course is to be used to play only - not as a practice session.

Use a maximum of two balls per hole.

The greens and the bunkers are not practice areas. We have a practice bunker by the nets; and a practice putting and chipping green for your needs.

Note also that a hole should be played only once. The 10th hole is not a practice hole.

Please be courteous and respect the course rules.

-Denis Coleman

John Paul

Handicap: 19.8

How long have you been at WGC: I can’t quite remember, but it was in the late 80’s or early 90’s.

Favourite Hole: I quite like the 11th. I like the 11th for its challenge. I wouldn’t say that I score the best on it; but it is a challenging hole.

What’s the best golfing tip you’ve been given? Follow through when you play a bunker shot. Don’t stop on it! You know, you see so many guys they stop on it and wonder why it hasn’t gone through. I remember Ernie Els saying, “60% backswing and follow-through". He’s a great bunker player that guy.

What’s your favourite thing about WGC? Just the comradery with the groups of guys that I play with. It’s fun. I play with the Poe’s on a Friday. I really enjoy playing with them because it’s not the score that you worry about; it’s the fact that you’re out there playing with 90-year-olds and they’re still out there doing it.

Also, I'm the 2025 North Harbour Vets Waitemata Rep - so get in touch if you're interested in getting involved.

9 Hole Men Match Play Championship

Mr three five woods, a chip and a putt aka Alister Bland has won the 9 Hole Men Match Play Championship. In the final he defeated Kerr Inkson.  Kerr was 2 up with 3 to play however down the middle Bland managed to win the match 1 up. Congratulations Alister.

The championship had a field of 16 with all players competing in matches over four rounds as there was many plate divisions. The competition provided fun and an interesting alternative for many of these golfers. 9 Hole Members tend to play at various times during the week thus their paths rarely cross so this competition provided an opportunity for us to meet other members which was very enjoyable.

In 2025 we intend to have two competitions for 9 Hole Men; in about March/April a Stroke Championship and October/November a  Match Play Championship.
