Carl Robinson
Handicap: 19.9
How long have you been at WGC?: I’m in my 5th year now. I started off just playing Twilight, and then I got the bug and decided to join as a part-time member. After Covid, I took it on full-time and have loved it ever since.
What got you interested in golf?: A couple of my close friends were playing and I thought I’d come down for a bit of fun with Twilight. And I’ve just wanted to play more ever since then.
What’s your favourite hole here and why?: The 8th. It’s a straight hole but it’s quite testing, as you’ve got bunkers on both sides halfway down the fairway. It’s also visually appealing.
What’s the best golfing tip you’ve been given?: Keep your head down.
If you could play a round with anybody, who would you pick, and why?: Tommy Fleetwood, Rick Shiels and my friend Steve Jefferson. Tommy and Rick inspire me - one is a Youtuber and one is a golf professional. And Steve is the person who truly kept me in the game. I started playing shortly after he did, and he was the one who got me into it in the first place.
Where would you like to play one day, and why?: Augusta National Golf club in the US. It’s incredibly challenging and visually stunning. If I can shoot under 140 playing there, I’d be very happy.
Do you have a long-term personal golfing goal that you are working towards? I’d like to get my handicap down. My goal for the next 12 months is to bring it down to around 14.
What’s your favorite thing about WGC?: It’s a beautiful course, and very testing. But it’s a lot more than that as well. The smiles and the friendliness of the staff, that’s the main thing for me.
